UNEMPLOYMENT FUNDS

ANNAPOLIS - Facing consistently high unemployment and a continuing recession, the O'Malley administration is looking to apply for almost $127 million dollars in stimulus funds to shore up the state's unemployment insurance trust fund. The legislature would need to expand unemployment eligibility to receive the funds. If that happens, businesses in the state hope to see some relief from a substantial unemployment tax hike slated to take effect in January. Slug: CNS-Unemployment Tax. About 600 words.
