Gridiron Foundation Journalism Fellowship at Maryland

The Gridiron Club, the 118-year-old newspaper correspondents’ organization, in 2003 established the Gridiron Fellowship at the University of Maryland’s Philip Merrill College of Journalism for an incoming master’s student each year.

The recipient is selected based on merit and a commitment to print journalism. Preference is given to students from populations underrepresented in the journalism profession.

The fellowship includes 24 credits of tuition remission for the 12-month program plus a stipend of approximately $12,500.

To be considered for the Gridiron Fellowship, candidates must:

  • Be accepted in the Philip Merrill College of Journalism.
  • Submit a resume and sample journalistic work products.
  • Write a letter stating your interest in the fellowship and print journalism.
