The Reuters Business Journalism Fellowship at Maryland
A Great Journalism Partnership: Reuters, Maryland and You
Reuters, the international news and information company, is funding a graduate fellowship at the University of Maryland’s Philip Merrill College of Journalism for a minority student interested in a career in business journalism.
The Reuters Fellowship at Maryland includes 24 credits of tuition remission and provides a stipend of approximately $14,000 for the 12-month program. During the program, the fellow will study under renowned Maryland journalism professors, including:
- Gene Roberts, the former executive editor of The Philadelphia Inquirer.
- David S. Broder, the Pulitzer-winning Washington Post political columnist.
- Deborah Nelson, a Pulitzer winner and recent Washington investigative editor for The Los Angeles Times, who directs the College's Carnegie Seminar.
- Haynes Johnson, the Pulitzer-winning political journalist and author.
- Jon Franklin, the two-time Pulitzer-winning science and feature writer.
- Ira Chinoy, the two-time Pulitzer-winning computer-assisted reporting expert from The Washington Post.
In addition to the coursework, the Reuters Fellow works part-time in the Washington bureau of Reuters news service during the fall semester and in the College’s Capital News Service reporting bureau in Washington or Annapolis during the spring semester.
To be considered for the Reuters Fellowship, candidates must:
- Complete a full application to the Maryland journalism master’s program. Applications are available online at the University's Web site
- Submit a resume and sample journalistic work products.
- Write a letter stating your interest in the fellowship and business journalism.
- Be a member of a minority group.
