Senior Scholar - Tenured Faculty

The University of Maryland's Philip Merrill College of Journalism seeks a recognized senior scholar to fill an important position in its Ph.D. program, and on its outstanding faculty of professionals and academics. The College seeks a visionary who targets opportunities for meaningful scholarship in a world of global media options. Scholars at the associate and full professor level with a proven record of accomplishment in published research in journalism, media studies or mass communication are encouraged to apply. We are particularly interested in scholars with a specialty in media economics or global media. These include "open source" models in journalism, and the economic implications of the rapid shift of news delivery to ubiquitous media technologies. Innovative interdisciplinary approaches are encouraged.

A Ph.D. is expected and is strongly preferred, but a candidate with an outstanding research and scholarly record and other advanced degrees will be considered. The candidate will be in position to make an immediate impact on the scholarly direction of the Merrill College and the University of Maryland, recognized among the nation's top public research universities. Salary and a research package will be competitive.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Carry out a programmatic research agenda
  • Help lead the College's research efforts
  • Advise graduate students
  • Have an ongoing active role in the life of the College and the University

QUALIFICATIONS:
Demonstrable potential to make distinguished contributions in research, teaching, publication and advising graduate students. Women and members of ethnic minority groups are especially invited to apply.

Please submit cover letter, CV, and names, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses of three references by October 30, 2009, for best consideration, to:
