Welcome!

The Maryland-District of Columbia Scholastic Press Association is a non-profit association headquartered at the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland, College Park. It offers opportunities to advisers and students to continue the journalistic tradition of excellence in Maryland and the Washington, D.C. area. MSPA has a strong interest in scholastic free press issues, in supporting the rejuvenation of defunct journalism programs and in strengthening existing programs at area middle and high schools. 2008 Fall Convention

Kevin Blackistone, panelist on ESPN's Around the Horn , national columnist for AOL Sports and regular contributor to The Politico, was the Opening Ceremony Keynote Speaker.

  • The MSPA Summer Journalism Programs for students and advisers at the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland, College Park.
  • The Annual Fall Convention featuring workshops, tours and speakers.
  • The Regis Boyle Scholarship for beginning publications advisers.
  • A publication critique and awards program.
  • Individual writing and editing awards for student journalists.
  • The Adviser, a newsletter for journalism advisers.
  • Professional support for journalism teachers, advisers and staffs including lobbying for the rights and educational status of scholastic journalists.
